Pakistan seamers send Australia packing at Lord's

For almost two of the three sessions, the day belonged to Australia. And then, in the last session the turnaround was so sudden and steep that in the final analysis it would be fair to say that Pakistan are on top in the first Test match against the Aussies at Lord’s. Scores an 80 but rest collapse>

The Aussies were put into bat on the first day of the rain-affected Lord’s Test match and were soon in trouble as Shane Watson was bowled off an edge off his pads. He scored four and Mohammad Aamer was the wicket-taker.

The second wicket stand between Simon Katich and Ricky Ponting rescued the side a little, but it was not before the pair had survived two almost-plumb LBW shouts. Ponting overtook Brian Lara’s record of the second-most runs in Test match cricket but was promptly dismissed after that, but it was Michael Clarke who overcame his issues in the T20 format of the game to finally get a move on.image;Mohammad Aamer:Continues to impress>

Katich completed his half century and looked good to get much more while Clarke batted steadily and made 47. The pair had taken the Australian score up to 171/2 before tea and the threat of the swinging ball seemed to have passed by. However, it was off the last ball before the tea interval that Mohammad Asif produced a delivery that hit Clarke on his pads and he was given out – albeit, unluckily – LBW.

Still, Australia went into the break at 171/3, and looked good. Unfortunately, that was the last time in the innings that they did look good. Post-tea, the reinvigorated Pakistani bowling tore the Aussie batting apart with a marvellous bowling performance. Katich departed for 80 soon after the break, and Marcus North lasted all of three deliveries for his duck.

The two debutants, Tim Paine and Steve Smith seven and one respectively, while the tail was blown away to be reduced to 229/9 with Michael Hussey, the lone hand, unbeaten on 39.

Mohammad Aamer and Asif, both scalped three wickets each, while Danish Kaneria chipped with two at the end. Pakistan will look to send the Aussies packing the first thing in the morning tomorrow.
