India take on Pakistan in the fourth game of the Asia Cup that is being played in Dambulla in Sri Lanka. India had earlier beaten Bangladesh in their first game of the tournament, whereas Pakistan did not start too well and lost to Sri Lanka in a reasonably close first match. >
India will know that their win against Bangladesh may not amount to a lot if they go down to India. Especially given that their last match will be against Sri Lanka, who play a lot of games in Dambulla, and to beat them here will be a difficult in a pressure, must-win game. >
Pakistan, on the other hand, will go into the match, in a must-win scenario. Given that one expects the Lankans to beat Bangladesh in the third match of the tournament, if Pakistan lose this game, both India and Sri Lanka will have two wins each, whereas Pakistan will be left with zero with only one game to play. This will mean that the last match between India and Sri Lanka will be turned into a dress rehearsal, whereas Pakistan will be knocked out of the tournament.
The Indians had a nice little workout in the previous match against Bangladesh but will need to work on their quick bowling. The start was highly unauspicious for the Indians and the side will now look to ensure that the bowlers send down the right lines and the lengths against the usually flashy Pakistani batsmen.
On the other hand, the Pakistanis bowled well with their pace bowlers. Shoaib Akhtar made an excellent return to international cricket and if he gets the chance to bowl for Pakistan under the lights, he could make things difficult for the Indian batsmen.
Pakistan will have a thought or two about changing their batting line-up. They cannot afford to have two youngsters in the top three, and that will mean that Salman Butt may have a new opening partner. Umar Amin could continue batting at three, or they could even get Shahzaib Hasan to open the innings, with someone like a Kamran Akmal at the third position. But, the crux of the matter is that they need some more experience at the top of the innings.
India (4/6 at Stan James) will go into the game as favourites, but will also realise that there is no such thing as favourites, when the two, archest of the rivals in cricket, India and Pakistan face each other. Pakistan go into the game at 6/5 (Bet Fred) to win the game.
