West Indies will host South Africa in a two match T20I series, which will be followed by five ODIs and three Test matches. The first game of the tour will be played between West Indies and South Africa and it will be a T20I played at North Sound. >
Both the sides are coming off a forgettable T20 World Cup and hence will look to make this series count. South Africa, in particular have not had a happy time back home, with the selectors and the former cricketers having been critical of the manner in which the side played in the tournament.>
On the other hand, West Indies could have done much better. They had a decent chance of usurping West Indies, but, on the other hand, ended up messing up their net run rate with a rather facile loss to the side and crashing out of the tournament in the process.
And both the sides, West Indies and South Africa, struggled with their batting. This will need to change in this series. While there is a marked dependence on Chris Gayle by the West Indian side for their success, the South Africans batted like they had forgotten than they were in a T20 game and not a longer format.
What marks out the difference between the two sides is the bowling; South Africa has pace bowlers to do the damage, whereas West Indies have, rather surprisingly, begun to depend too heavily on their spinners.
South Africa will still go into the game as favourites, given that their general pedigree looks much better than their opposition. BetFair offers 53/100 for a South African win in this first game as compared to 21/20 for West Indies to surprise the side.
