Former Indian cricketers have panned MS Dhoni for the kind of performances that India showed in the ICC World T20 in the West Indies. India crashed out of the tournament by losing all their three Super Eight games for the second time in running, which meant that the 2007 winners did not qualify for the semi-finals again. >
Sourav Ganguly, writing in his column, said that IPL is a domestic tournament, which cannot be compared with the rigours and demands of the international calendar. He was also critical of the manner in which Yuvraj has played in the tournament and added that, “He has to look at his game. If he doesn’t perform for long periods, the selectors will not play him just on the basis of his reputation.”
Sunil Gavaskar said that he was dismayed by India’s lack of adaptability, whereas Ravi Shastri did not seem to be too off the mark when he said that out of all tournaments that MS Dhoni has captained in, this was the worst.
Former Indian captain, Mohammad Azharuddin said that the IPL parties would have had a role to play, whereas Madan Lal was dismissive of the IPL parties by saying that those were all frivolous excuses and that nobody forced the players to go to the parties.
