World T20 Preview: S Africa v Afghanistan at Barbados
The 12th and the final league match of the ICC World T20 will be played between the South African side and Afghanistan. Both the teams lost their first games to India and that means that this game will be a virtual pre-quarter-finals, with the winning team reaching the last eight, and the side losing the contest being booted out of the tournament. >
The chances of South Africa losing to Afghanistan are bleak. In fact, for that to happen, will need a mini-miracle of sorts, especially given that the game will be played under the lights at Barbados. That means that the ball will dart around and swing and seam and make it extremely difficult for the highly inexperienced Afghanistan side. >
This will also mean that the South Africans will come out rather hard at the opposition. In the previous game, one saw that the Indians went hard at the bowling after the initial overs were up, and that was probably due to the fact that the South African attack had a bit of a oneness about it.
However, given the lack of experience and inability to handle the short ball, the Afghanistan side will be peppered by the short balls by the same by the likes of Dale Steyn, Morne Morkel and his brother Albie.
To me, it seems to be a mismatch of the highest proportions and that will mean that the offer of 1/25 at William Hill for the South African win should be what I will bet my dollars on, while Bet365’s 14/1 may look tempting, but not something that will earn me any money!
