Shahid Afridi takes the PCB to court against fine

In recent developments on Pakistani Cricket, veteran player, Shahid Afridi has appealed against the PCB fine levied upon him last month.

In recent developments on Pakistani Cricket, veteran player, Shahid Afridi has appealed against the PCB fine levied upon him last month. The PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) has imposed a three million rupees fine on Afridi for ball tempering tactics at their recent tour to Australia.

Taffazul Rizvi is the legal advisor to the PCB said on April 13th, 2010, “Shahid Afridi has lodged an official appeal against his punishment and it will now be sent to the governing board, who will then send it to one of the independent arbitrators appointed to handle this case.” Earlier, the Akmal brothers, Umar and Kamran and Rana Naved have filed appeal against their fine with the board. The former Pakistani captain, Younnus Khan was also expected the file his appeal to the board later in the same day.

Rizvi further added on the matter, “We have a proper process for these appeals to be heard by the appellate board which has already been formed. The appellate board will decide whether to uphold the appeals of the players or reject them or recommend changes to the punishments.” Afridi made a point in his appeal that the board had made an injustice to him by punishing him for an offense for which he has already been punished for. The all-rounder has been banned from playing two matches by the ICC match referee after which the PCB levied the fine upon him.
