The 47th match of the DLF IPL will see the Mumbai Indians take on the Delhi Daredevils at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. And with the Mumbai Indians having already qualified for the knock-outs, the onus is on Delhi to do all the running and make the game count. >
There is no doubt that the Mumbai Indians will look to go into the match with a few changes to their side, given that they have already gone through to the next round. Guys like Zaheer Khan and Harbhajan Singh need some rest before the knock-out game, and hence will probably be replaced. >
Already, Dhawal Kulkarni showed that he is at the top of his game, in the match against the Royals, and it would be worthwhile in getting in Ryan McLaren in place of Zaheer. That would also mean that the side would need to get Sanath Jayasuriya replaced – given the four foreign members rule – by someone like an Abhishek Nayar in the middle.
The Daredevils have been in a strange sort of a form. At one stage, they looked dead and buried, then went on to win a few games in a row and then have lost a couple of them again to look like they need to win all of the remaining ones. Gautam Gambhir’s third successive run-out talks of the kind of state he is in, and it would do him well to relax a little as the captain of the Delhi side.
But for him to relax, it also needs the rest of the side to make some runs; Virender Sehwag’s yet to fire, and Dave Warner’s form has been patchy. However, the line-up does look decent for now, and the only change that I can visualise happening will depend on the conditions of the pitch. Daniel Vettori may continue to remain in the side despite Dirk Nannes’ recovery from his injury, as the pitches in India seem to have slowed down a tad.
To me, Delhi will be favourites going into the game, given that there is not much for Mumbai after their qualification for the semi-finals. And this is despite what the bookies have to say; Mumbai Indians going into the game at 9/10 (Stan James) as compared to Delhi (11/10 at Sky Bet)
