Pakistan still not sure about captaincy

Pakistani player, Shahid Afridi is recently in news for voting Abdul Razzaq as the new captain for the current national T20 squad.

Pakistani player, Shahid Afridi is recently in news for voting Abdul Razzaq as the new captain for the current national T20 squad. Afridi has said that if he is not selected to lead the team, he would like to see Razzaq captain the team at the Twenty20 World Cup.

Afridi and the Pakistan Cricket Board held a special meeting to discuss the fate of the national squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup. The major decision yet to be taken is the appointment of a captain to lead the team. The 15-member squad has already been announced without naming the skipper. Afridi was to lead the team but ICC has put on him a ban for two games and he was also slashed with a hefty fine by the board. The next best option, Shoiab Malik led the team in his absence into all three formats with successful results. But he is also out from international cricket for almost an year, on account of a ban induced by the PCB.

As a result, the team management is left with meager options to choose the captain from. β€œIn the next few days we will name a captain for the World Twenty20 but beyond that I will not say anything,” Ijaz Butt reported to the media. Butt is the chairman of the PCB who also added, β€œWe are only naming a captain for this format and tournament right now and nothing else.”

The PCB will have to come up with a permanent or at least a long-term captain soon enough as the team is expected to head to England for playing six Test matches in a tri-series against the hosts and Australia.
