The Kolkata Knight Riders will play the Chennai Super Kings in the Eden Gardens in Kolkata today. While the Knight Riders have had an excellent start to their tournament with a couple of wins from two games, the Super Kings were out-batted by the Deccan Chargers in their first game and will look to record their first win in the tournament. >
The first couple of games that the Knight Riders played had performances from many a cricketer, and that is the best part about the team so far. It has not depended on only one cricketer, and apart from Angelo Mathews, who was a star performer in both the games with the bat and the ball, the rest of them have all been chipping in with their efforts. >
One is not too sure whether or not Chris Gayle will land in Kolkata by the time the game begins, but the fact of the matter is that Ganguly may not want to change things around too much given that the problems that the Knight Riders had in the previous seasons was with the inconsistencies in the batting order. This means that one can expect Gayle to be kept out of the side for a little more while.
The Super Kings’ biggest issue is with their bowling. Somehow, it is difficult to accept that Albie Morkel, Sudeep Tyagi and Justin Kemp will form the best three quick bowlers and the captain MS Dhoni needs to make some quick changes to his line-up before the slide becomes too prominent.
Morkel, at best, is a one change bowler in the ODI format, with a penchant to go for runs, and as is Tyagi, which means that the captain could be looking at the likes of Thilan Thushara or Makhaya Ntini instead.
888Sport has christened the Chennai Super Kings as favourites, but only just, as they go into the game at 10/11, as compared to 1/1 offered for a Kolkata win by Bet Fred. And one can be rest assured that the Kolkata Knight Riders will have many more takers than they had at the start of the tournament.
