New Zealand will face Australia in the second T20I of the two game series. The first one was easily won by Australia, and they will look to extend their winning run by another game as they play at Christchurch. >
The Christchurch wicket is usually a quicker one than one used for the first T20I and the Kiwis could have further problems in facing the pace of the Aussie quicks in Shaun Tait, Dirk Nannes and Mitchell Johnson. There is a good chance that Johnson could be rested in a bid to rotate the team around but what remains to be seen is whether the Kiwi batsmen can take advantage of this fact. >
The New Zealanders had struggled to pick up the Aussie bowlers and the manner in which the likes of Brendon McCullum and Peter Ingram were hurried into their shots speaks volumes about the kind of improvements expected.
From the point of view of the Australian batsmen, it will be interesting to see if they can chase down a decently big total. So far, Dave Warner has bullied around the opposition while chasing down totals of not in excess of 150, but if McCullum and company get going, it could get interesting.
However, the only way in which the Kiwis can think of going one up on the Aussies is by expecting that their top-order will come good and deliver – probably, even by seeing out the Tait and Nannes overs. Totesport offers 4/11 for an Aussie win, which will be on expected lines, as compared to New Zealand’s 11/5 at William Hill.
