The third ODI between Australia and West Indies at Sydney Cricket Ground was abandoned due to heavy rains in the second innings. Chasing a target of 226 for their first win on tour, the West Indian side were 6/0 in the first over, before the rains began and the match had to be called off. Gets a game for West Indies>

Earlier, West Indies had won the toss and decided to field first thanks to the conditions that supported the bowlers. Rather surprisingly, the West Indian side went into the game with Kemar Roach, and picked up Darren Sammy instead; probably in a bid to strengthen the batting. As also, they got in Wavell Hinds in place of Runako Morton.Injured before the match>

For the Aussies, Brad Haddin and Shane Watson were rested, whereas Shaun Marsh woke up with a back spasm. This meant that Time Paine, James Hopes and Adam Voges joined the side.

Batting first, the Aussies kept losing wickets at regular intervals. 50 was the highest stand they could muster, and only two batsmen got to their 40s, Michael Clarke and Michael Hussey. The rest of them all chipped with starts, but could not convert into anything substantial which meant that the side had nothing much to play with.

Ravi Rampaul scalped four wickets but also went for 61 in his ten overs, including an 18-run last over to Ryan Harris.

The match was reduced to a 24 over encounter, in which the side had to score 151 for a win, but further rains put paid to any hope that the fans had of an early resumption.

The series now moves to Brisbane where they play their fourth ODI.
