Mumbai has won the Ranji Trophy by beating Karnataka in the finals at Mysore. It was a nail-biter of a finish and had all the ingredients that a final should have, as Mumbai triumphed by six runs to lift the trophy a record 39 times. >
Resuming on their overnight total of 135/3, the hosts Karnataka were bowled out for 331 in their second innings to hand over the trophy to Mumbai. >
Manish Pandey almost single-handedly brought the Karnataka side close to a win when he smashed a 144 off only 151 balls. He, along with Ganesh Satish, took the score up to 255/3 and were only 87 runs short of the target. However, the typical Mumbai fight-back saw them claw their way back into the game with the wicket of Pandey.
Three wickets fell for five runs, and despite a 36 run partnership for the seventh wicket, the hosts could not recover from his dismissal. The last four wickets fell for 35 runs, as Mumbai won the trophy in a humdinger.
Ajit Agarkar scalped five wickets in the innings after being involved in an ugly fracas or two with the opposition throughout the game. He had even lost half of his match fee due to that earlier in the game.
