Former New Zealand all-rounder Chris Cairns has decided that he will sue IPL chief Lalit Modi for his remarks about the player. Modi had earlier removed Cairns from the list of 97 players included for auctions on the allegations that Cairns had been involved in match-fixing during the Indian Cricket League (ICL). >
In response to this, Cairns has said that the comments made by Modi were untrue. He also called them scandalous in nature and said that they caused him much “personal distress and professional damage.” >
Cairns also added that he would not be allowed to let this kind of defamation affect him in the future and hence had instructed his solicitors to bring about proceedings against Modi.
Cairns was a part of the ICL but was suspended by the board. The official reason that had come out then was that the all-rounder had hidden an injury, in collusion with Dinesh Mongia. However, there were murmurs that the pair had been involved in match-fixing during the course of the tournament.
He was subsequently banned but then he was one of the beneficiaries of the amnesty that the respective boards had provided for coming back to the international fold. He had then applied for the IPL, but his name had been removed from the list by Mr. Modi.
