South Africa has complained to the match referee about the incident in which English pace bowler Stuart Broad was shown to be stamping on the cricket ball with his spikes on. Ball Tampering?>

Broad had delivered the ball to Hashim Amla who had driven it back to the bowler. The bowler, instead of picking the ball up, used his foot to press it. However, given that he was wearing spikes, it could have caused damage to the cherry.

The English team, especially their bowling department, has been under the scanner over allegations of ball tampering to assist the quick bowlers in getting the ball to reverse.

However, the English coach, Andy Flower has downplayed the incident, saying that he had seen many a bowlers do it and there was no sinister purpose behind it. The South African team has also decided not to lodge a complaint against Broad over the incident.

The umpires have also not brought any charge on the bowler after having reviewed the video. A media statement that was read out said, “With play on day four of the match having resumed, the deadline for submission of such notification has now passed. In addition, having reviewed relevant television footage, the umpires decided not to bring a charge against any player for a breach of Law 42.3. As such, the ICC now considers this specific matter to be closed.”

This was the second time in as many weeks that Broad has been involved in a controversy after having questioned an umpire’s decision earlier.
