Little master Sachin standing tall after 20 innings

What does it take to recognize a superhero? Is it Batman’s cape, Superman’s cloak or simply a bat? Well, the unthinkable has been achieved by our very well known ‘Little Master’.

What does it take to recognize a superhero? Is it Batman’s cape, Superman’s cloak or simply a bat? Well, the unthinkable has been achieved by our very well known ‘Little Master’. Sachin Tendulkar has far grown up from the shy 16 year boy who was selected to represent India against the touring Pakistan in 1989. Standing up to the likes of Waqar Younis, Wasim Akram and Imran Khan itself demands great courage, and to scare them takes a superhero. Sachin Tendulkar>

While debating on whether to select him in the squad to play against the mighty Pakistani team, the team of selectors was unsure of the little boy. But the West Zone selector simply said “Gentlemen, Sachin Tendulkar does not fail.” Those words changed everything for the little boy. Sachin had lived up to the faith put up on him by the panel of selectors.

Completing 20 years of playing cricket means leaving us with an assortment of images flashing through our mind. From running around in streets shouting “India wins, Sachin Man of the Match!” to scanning newspapers and reading every article published in praise of the master blaster. Even former Pakistani players have words of admiration for Sachin. Ex-spinner Abdul Qadir remembers Sachin, “I think Tendulkar has outdone all the other greats with his hunger for the game which is amazing.” While Qadir was at his peak, Sachin hit 3 sixes of his over in a match at Peshawar. Others who have admired Sachin include former Aussie captain Steve Waugh, “”It can be said that he is the Bradman of our times and I do feel privileged to have played a lot of cricket against him.” Indian maestro Sunil Gavaskar quoted, “I think, apart from Sir Garfield Sobers nobody else has played 20 years in international cricket and 20 years playing at the very highest level and to the very highest standard is an achievement beyond compare.”

While the entire cricket fraternity and fans have come together to Congratulate the ‘Little Master’, Sachin decided to spend the joyous occasion with close friends and family. Sachin celebrated with a small gathering on Sunday, 15th November 2009 at St. Laurn, Gujarat. Close friends Atul Ranade and Sameer Dighe are expected to attend the bash. Rajesh Sinha, vice president of St Laurn, has ordered a special oriental menu for Sachin which includes his favorite sea food - prawns, salmon and lobsters. He quoted to the media, “The menu has been named S20 after Sachin and would be available from today evening till they stay with us.” The hotel’s executive chef has also prepared a swiss chocolate cake weighing a whooping five kilos.

Currently India is gearing up to play the test series against Sri Lanka in Gujarat starting on 16th. Mr. Narendra Modi, Chief Minister of Gujarat, also the Gujarat Cricket Association president, will be felicitating Sachin by presenting him a memento just before the start of the Test series. The first match is to be played at the Sardar Patel Ground, Ahmedabad which incidentally is the same ground where Sunil Gavaskar completed 10,000 runs of his career. Sachin also has fond memories of the GCA ground where he scored his first test cricket double century in 1999 against New Zealand.
