It is seen that 2009 was a definite season of mixed fortunes where the Dutch women’s cricket team had some positive signs which was along with some disturbing ones.
With their debut in the ECB’s LV Women’s County Championship, the national side had clear plan ahead of them and won the South and the West section of Division 5. They even faced a playoff against the winners of the North and the East section to gain promotion to Division 5.
Due to the financial concerns at the Dutch side, there wasn’t straight forward and the players did everything that they could possibly do on their part, beating Oxfordshire, Dorset, Gloucestershire and Shropshire to head their section.
It was however a slightly weird episode which involved Wiltshire, who had previously informed the KNCB about the fixture on 8th August that the ground at Urchfront was unplayable. Moreover, the Dutch turned up to find that the match could have gone ahead when they were in England for their double weekend.
But, at the end all went well for the team. Seamer Jolet Hartenhof along with Spinner Annemarie Tanke claimed 7 wickets each over the four matches they played.
