The English women drew the only test match of the series against their Australian counterpart to retain the Ashes.

Batting first after winning the toss, Australia was in deep trouble when Katherine Brunt ran through their top-order to have them struggling at 28/5, before a colossal partnership of 229 runs for the sixth wicket between captain Jodie Fields and Rachel Haynes ensued. The Aussies ended on 309, with Foster smashing a 139 and Haynes scoring 98. Brunt had another set of excellent bowling figures with a 6/69.

In reply, England was no better at 59/5, but recovered to score 268, conceding a lead of 41 runs. Beth Morgan scored a half century, and rather surprisingly, there was no other score of more than 50.

Australia started well this time around, with a 68 from Alex Blackwell, but in a four-day test match like this, the slow run-rates of the first two innings of the game meant that the Aussies needed a miracle to first pile up a huge total and then expect to run through the strong English line-up for a win. As it turned out, Australia scored 231, and gave the English a target of 273 runs in a little over 50 overs. Knowing well that a draw will suffice to regain the Ashes, the hosts batted out those overs for a score of 106/3 and take home the Ashes.
