Update on ÍCC Women's World T20

By Comments

India beat Pakistan in the Women’s ICC World T20 game at Taunton to gain their first couple of points in the tournament. Pakistan had won the toss and elected to bat first, but collapsed against some sustained excellent bowling by Priyanka Roy, who finished with figures of 5/16 in her spell. Pakistan could manage only 75 in their inning

In reply, India lost a wicket early, and were 16/3 at one stage, before Anjum Chopra guided the team to a win. India scored 78/5 and won with 14 balls to spare.

In another game, New Zealand had no problems in disposing off the West Indian women by 52 runs at the same ground. Spurred on by a Suzie Bates half-century, the Kiwis got to 158 in their twenty overs and then restricted WI to 106. Stafanie Taylor, who had scored a half-century in her previous game against South Africa did the same again, but it went in vain for her team.

This was New Zealand’s second win after they have beaten Australia in their first game of tournament.

Group A has the Kiwis on top with four points, while the West Indies has two from two games. Both, Australia and South Africa have yet to open their account.

In the other group, England, Sri Lanka and India, all have two points each, but India has played one extra game. Pakistan have played two and have yet to open their account.
