Andrew Symonds has said that he will take some time before making a decision about his future in cricket. He was talking to the media after landing in Queensland and said that he will think about his retirement plans in greater before coming out with the decision. Cricket Australia had earlier said that his contract with the Australian team was under review and it may be torn up.
Symonds had been sent back home after he violated a clause within his contract that prohibited him from drinking alcohol in public view. He had gone to watch a rugby game with his friends and had a couple of drinks in a pub, following which he was expelled from the team. He said, “I have got a fair bit to consider I suppose and I appreciate you all coming out here this morning and I will come out and make a full statement when I have gathered my thoughts and sat down with friends.” image”:Andrew Symonds:What does the future hold?> Symonds had been under the aegis of psychologist Deidre Anderson right from last year when he broke several rules in quick succession and found himself out of the team on more occasions than not. Anderson said that Symonds was making giant strides towards recovery and was working through his personal issues.
However, his state side of Queensland and the IPL franchise of Deccan Chargers have stood by him and said that he will continue playing for their teams if he wants to. Graham Dixon, the Queensland Cricket chief executive said that Symonds had spent half his life playing cricket for the Bulls and he will be more than welcome to continue his career with them.
Earlier, Deccan Chargers had extended their full support to the Queenslander saying that they had no intentions to expel him from their team. Chargers had bought Symonds in the first season’s auctions for more than a million dollars per annum.
