Caroline Atkins and Charlotte Edwards toured Taunton with the World Cup, 45 days after England won this championship. Taunton is the home of Women’s Cricket. >
Day One
Somerset was the place where the Women’s World Cup tour began. Giles Clarke (England and Wales Cricket Board Chairman), Jefferson Hosley (Councilor) and Richard Gould (Somerset Club Executive) welcomed and congratulated Edwards and Atkins. Thereafter, a skills session was taken by the English players with Thurlbear School, the winners of the Western Daily Press School Competition. Further, this session was continued with the runners-up, Worle School and Stalbridge Primary. A corporate hospitality suite awarded the Thurlbear School a prize as per which they would get an opportunity to watch the Women’s World Twenty20 match between Sri Lanka and England on 14th June 2009. Then, the players took their Cup to the children’s ward of the Musgrove Park Hospital. The children met the players and held the Cup. The smiles on their faces were evidence of their joy.
Day Two
On the second day, the players visited Orchard Court Nursing Home. The residents welcomed the players and also had a team photo. The players then visited ASDA who are the sponsors of the girls only Kwik Cricket Competition. In the fruit aisle, the players had a mock game. Further, the players visited Archbishop Cranmer and Wellsprings School. These two schools have adopted the players during the World Twenty20 championship. Edwards and Atkins paid a visit to NatWest and here they became judges of a coloring competition. To wind up the day, they had a coaching session with the Mini Sabres Cricket Club at the County Ground.
