Group match against England
On 20th October 1987, England and Pakistan clashed in their group match at National Stadium, Karachi. In the stipulated 50 overs, England accrued 244 runs for 9 wickets. Bill Athey faced 104 deliveries and struck 86 runs. Imran Khan bowled 9 overs, conceded 37 runs and took 4 wickets. Pakistan replied by scoring 247 runs for 3 wickets in 49 overs. Ramiz Raja top scored with 113 off 148 balls. John Emburey took 1 wicket for 34 runs in 10 overs. Pakistan won this match by 7 wickets. Imran Khan was honored as the Man of the Match. 
Group match against Sri Lanka
Pakistan played its 5th group match of the 1987 Cricket World Cup against Sri Lanka on 25th October 1987 and the venue was Iqbal Stadium, Faisalabad. Pakistan amassed 297 runs in 50 overs for the loss of 7 wickets. Saleem Malik faced 95 balls and smashed 100 runs. Sri Lanka found the target too large and in 50 overs lost 8 wickets and managed to score 184 runs. Abdul Qadir picked up 3 wickets for 40 runs in 10 overs. Pakistan won this match by 113 runs. The Man of the Match was Saleem Malik.
Group match against West Indies
The last group match of Pakistan was at National Stadium, Karachi and the opponent was West Indies. The first batting team was West Indies and in 50 overs, 7 wickets were lost and 258 runs were scored. Richie Richardson collected 110 runs in 135 deliveries. Wasim Akram made 3 dismissals for 45 runs in 10 overs. Pakistan was restricted to 230 for 9 in 50 overs. Ramiz Raja scored 70 runs in 111 balls. Patrick Patterson bowled 10 overs, gave away 34 runs and picked up 3 wickets. West Indies won this match by 28 runs. Richie Richardson was awarded the Man of the Match prize. 
Semi final against Australia
The first semi-final of the 1987 Cricket World Cup was played on 4th November 1987. The contestants were Pakistan and Australia. Australia won the toss and decided to bat. In 50 overs, the team lost 6 wickets and gathered 267 runs. David Boon was the top scorer with 65 runs in 91 balls. Imran Khan claimed 3 wickets for 36 runs in 10 overs. Pakistan was all out for 252 in 49.2 overs. Javed Miandad managed to score 70 runs in 103 balls. Craig McDermott picked up 5 wickets for 44 runs in 10 overs. Australia won this semi final by 18 runs and progressed to the final. The Man of the Match was Craig McDermott. Pakistan exited from the championship.
