The second semi-final of the Australasia Cup 1986 was played at Sharjah C.A. Stadium on 15th April 1986. New Zealand and Pakistan were the two teams in this match. AJ Gaynor (West Indies) and DM Archer (West Indies) were the umpires in this match. The captain of the New Zealand team was Jeff Crowe and of the Pakistan team was Imran Khan. Pakistan won the toss and decided to field first.
New Zealand innings
Ken Rutherford and Martin Snedden were the opening batsmen in the New Zealand cricket team. When the score was 4, Snedden was bowled by Wasim Akram for a duck. Martin Crowe, the No. 3 batsman, did not last long. He was caught by Abdul Qadir off the bowling of Wasim Akram for 9. The scoreboard read 2 for 15. 3 runs later, Ken Rutherford was caught by Javed Miandad off the bowling of Imran Khan on 2. The skipper, Jeff Crowe, was caught by Zulqarnain off the bowling of Wasim Akram on 1. At this stage, New Zealand was struggling at 4 for 18. The two batsmen at the crease were Evan Gray and Bruce Blair. This pair showed some resistance and increased the score of their team up to 32. Blair faced 4 balls and scored 9 runs but was bowled by Abdul Qadir. Tony Blain could not confront the mesmerizing spin of Abdul Qadir and was bowled by him for a duck. John Bracewell also met with the same fate. He too was bowled by Abdul Qadir for a duck. The scoreboard read 7 for 32. Evan Gray and Ervin McSweeney were out in the middle. This duo added 16 runs. When the score was 48, McSweeney was caught by Wasim Akram off the bowling of Abdul Qadir for 7. He faced 26 deliveries. Ewen Chatfield scored 2 runs and returned to the pavilion. He was caught by a sub off the bowling of Manzoor Elahi. The last batsman to be out was Evan Gray. He faced 75 balls and with the aid of 1 boundary accrued 17 runs. He was on the ground for 119 minutes. New Zealand was bowled out for 64 in 35.5 overs. It was a very poor performance. >
Pakistan innings
Pakistan had a very easy target of 65 runs from 50 overs. The opening pair did not return to the pavilion without scoring the necessary runs. Mudassar Nazar faced 67 balls and remained not out on 32. His knock included 4 fours. Mohsin Khan remained unbeaten on 34 off 69 deliveries. In 22.4 overs, Pakistan scored 66 runs without loss of any wicket. Pakistan won by 10 wickets and progressed to the final of the Australasia Cup. >
