Small but packing a punch, Vic Darchinyan was born on January 7, 1976. Known as “The Raging Bull” to his fans, Vic Darchinyan is one gutsy fighter. He called Manny Pacquiao out once, although Pacquiao fights several weight classes above him. The Armenian fighter has steamrolled his way through the flyweight and super flyweight divisions where he won five different championship belts before he reached the age of 33. As an amateur, Darchinyan held a 158-18 record as an amateur with 105 KOs under his belt. He also fought in the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, making it to the third round of the 112 pound division before falling to Kazak boxer Bulat Jumadilov.

He started to fight professionally at the age of 24, winning his first fight over Sande Kizito in 2000. This paved the way for 27 more fights, 22 of which he won. It was in 2004 that he won his first match in the US by defeating Irene Pacheco in the 11th round. In 2007, he also defeated Glenn Donaire and Victor Burgos, sending the latter to surgery to have a blood clot removed after their bout.

However, Darchinyan later lost to Nonito Donaire, Glenn Donaire’s brother by TKO in the fifth round in the same year. After losing his flyweight belts to Donaire, he moved up to the super flyweight division and won the IBO and IBF belts with his victory of Federico Catubay. He later took on Dimitri Kirilov in 2008, knocking the opponent in the fifth round in Washington.

Darchinyan’s current professional record is at 38 total fights with 35 victories, 27 via knockout, and 2 losses with 1 draw. As of May 2010, Darchinyan is the IBO bantam weight champion after winning against Eric Barcelona.
