Songkram Porpaoin was born in 1968 in Japan. He is considered as one of the WBA Strawweight World Champion certified by the World Boxing Association in the January 30, 1999 to July 1999. However, interim WBA minimum champion has been removed from his title due to the failure to exercise the degree of care of his duty to report his participation in a non title bout. In addition, he failed to pay the sanction fee of that no title bout plus his bad defeat by unheralded Japanese Hiroshi Matsumoto on a lopsided verdict twice in Kokura, Japan on May 16. In February, he acquired the vacant interim WBA 105 by a controversial technical decision over Ronnie Magramo in Thailand. Some prospects to beat with Songkram Porpaoin were Japan-OPBF champion Hiroshi Nakajima, contender Satoru Abe, ex-OPBF ruler Wolf Tokimitsu, Japanese national champion Makoto Suzuki, and the victor Matsumoto. Niwat Laosuwanwat, Songkram's manager is desperately doing his best by contacting the WBA headquarters to make his boy regain the status of the interim champ. If it will result in good effect, Niwat will accept Songkram fighting here to yield his interim crown to one of the Japanese top 5 small boys.
