Joma Gamboa is a Japanese-Filipino hard-puncher. He kept his WBA interim minimum weight title as he dropped Astunishi Sai. It was his first defense of the WBA interim title since he got it on a 6th round KO of Satoru Abe in an interim elimination bout in Nagoya last December.
With his fight with a silver medalist in the national high school tournaments named Sai, Gamboa, turned aggressive and throws hard punches with him in the second round. Sai retaliated with plenty of punches in the third while he covered himself up properly. Gamboa had his face swollen badly as the contest progressed. With his solid and accurate punches in the 11th, Sai, refused to go down again to show his determination but dominated the final session with his desperate escape to turn the side thus being aware of far behind on points. Gamboa then cleverly averted and blocked Sai’s last surge by showing his superior defensive skill.
Their score was such in a close fashion despite the actually one-sided and they were able to evaluate Sai’s aggressiveness rather than Gamboa’s accurate and effective punches. Gamboa raised his credentials while Sai concluded to ceased playing and concentrate on his job as house construction designer rather than pursuing his career in boxing. Then Gamboa is schedule to meet the WBA champ Noel Arambulet for another decision.
