Haile Gebrselassie was born on 18th of April 1973, in Asella, Arsi Province in Ethiopia; he was more commonly known as “The Emperor”.

Haile Gebrselassie is an Ethiopian long distance track and road running athlete who has achieved major competition wins at distances between 1500 meters and the marathon. Haile has broken 26 world records and won several Olympic and World Championship titles. He is considered to be one of the greatest distance runners of all time.

Haile is known as “Geb” to his friends and close ones. He grew up in a farm and had to run 10 kilometers everyday just to go to school in which laid the foundation for his running career. Gebrselassied did not participate in the 2008 Beijing Olympics because of high air pollution levels in the city. He starred in the movie Endurance that was based on his life and career. After his retirement, Haile wants to enter politics.
