Gombos, nicknamed “Gombi”, was born on August 13, 1990, in Galanta, in Slovakia. He stands 193 cm tall and his last listed weight is 85 kg. A right-handed player, Gombos has a two-handed backhand. He turned pro in 2009 and is coached by Tibor Toth.
He speaks Hungarian, Slovak, and English fluently. He started playing tennis when he was 8 years old. His favorite tournament is the Australian Open and Wimbledon. He is a fan of tennis player Juan Martin del Potro.
In 2014, he represented his country in the Davis Cup and he defeated Dominic Thiem in the opening. In 2017, he made it to the first round of Wimbledon. He also made his first ATP World Tour quarter-finals in Marseille.
