Alexandra Krunic is a Russian-born Serbian professional tennis player. She achieved her highest singles ranking of No.39 in June 2018. She also does well in the double events and in September 2019, she reached a career-high rank of No.35. As of December 2021, she is ranked No.46.

She has also represented Serbia in a number of international events including the 2016 and 2020 Summer Olympics and the 2012 Fed Cup. She has also made high-ranking finishes in all of the four Grand Slam events, both in singles and doubles.

Player Profile and Personal Life

Krunic was born on March 15, 1993. She stands 163 meters tall and she plays with her right hand and has a double-handed backhand. She turned pro in 2008 and she has been coached by Sarah Stone and Elise Tamaela.

She speaks English, Slovak, Russian, and Serbian fluently and she prefers playing on clay. She started playing tennis when she was just 7 years old.

Junior Career

At a young age, she trained at the Spartak Moscow club, which is known for having produced a number of tennis stars including Elena Dementieva, Anastasia Myskina, Anna Kournikova, and Igor Andreev.

In 2006, she made it to the finals of the Junior Kremlin Cup where she lost to Dalia Zafirova. She would later go on to reach the quarterfinals of the European Junior Championships. In 2009, she played in the girl’s event at the Australian Open. She made it to the second round of the singles event and the final of the doubles event. At that time, she was partnered with Sandra Zaniewska.

In the same year, she made it to the second round for both the singles and doubles girls’ events at the French Open. Her highest junior ranking was No.17. She reached this in April 2009.

Professional Career

Krunic was awarded a wildcard to play at an ITF event in 2008. She went on to win that event and was the youngest title winner in the ITF for that year. Later, she was invited to join the Fed Cup team for Serbia in 2009. By 2010, she had won her 4th ITF title, this time it was in a tournament in China.

She was again made a part of the Fed Cup team for 2012. They went on to the finals. She would represent Serbia several more times throughout her career. Most significantly in the 2016 and 2020 Summer Olympics.

She debuted on the WTA tour in 2011. This was at an event in Budapest. During 2011 and 2012, she tried to make it into Grand Slam events but lost during the qualifiers. She made her first Grand Slam appearance in 2013.

In 2014, she made it to the fourth round of the US Open as a singles player. The following year, she made it to the third round of the singles event for Wimbledon and the third round of the doubles event at the US Open. A year later, she made it to the third round of the French Open.

Her next major Grand Slam appearance was in 2019 where she made it to both the second rounds of the French Open and in the US Open. Her latest appearance at a Grand Slam was in 2021 when she was in the Quarter Finals for the women’s doubles event at Wimbledon.

Throughout her career, Aleksandra has won 8 Singles and 7 Doubles ITF titles. She also has 1 singles and 9 doubles titles at the WTA.
