Alexander Stanislavovich “Sasha” Bublik was born in Gatchina, Russia on June 17, 1997. He has been playing since he was four years old. In 2016, he and several other Russian players switched over to Kazakhstan because they offered better athlete support.
Bublik stands 196 cm tall and his weight was last listed at 82 kg. He is a right-handed player with a two-handed backhand. He has been playing professionally since 2016. Coached by Artem Suprunov, he has earned around US$5.6 million in prize money.
Career
He started his career as a Russian player but it wasn’t until he switched to Kazakhstan that he started to see improvement. In 2016, he had his first ATP wins and he made his ATP main draw debut at the 2016 St. Petersburg Open.
The next year, he made it to the second round of the Australian Open, a finish that he will repeat in 2021 and again in 2022. He also broke through the Top 100 for the first time in his career in 2017, landing in the No. 95 spot.
He had some struggles with his form in 2018 and it affected his performance but by 2019, he was back on top and he broke into the Top 50 of the world rankings. This year, he made it to the second round of the French Open and the third round of the US Open.
Bublik was also making headway as a doubles player and in 2020, he made it to the semifinals of the doubles event in the Australian Open, and 2021, he made it to the finals of the French Open Doubles.
His 2022 has been one of the best years in his career. He made it to both the second rounds of the Aussie Open and Roland Garros. He also made it to the third round of Wimbledon.
In 2023, he was in the fourth round of Wimbledon.
