It is her first clay court tournament win for the season and her third title of the year but Caroline Wozniacki is not slowing down, instead looking ahead to her next big match at the French Open.
Her most recent win is giving her a confidence boost, enough to feel good about winning at Rolland Garros. She ended the week with a victory over Elena Vesnina, the surprise finalist after going past former number one Jelena Jankovic in the semis. The Dane lost one set in all of her five matches, to Barbora Zahlavova Strycova, and had a close call against quarterfinal opponent Yanina Wickmayer.
Wozniacki had a tougher opponent in the unseeded Vesnina, who was going back and forth from the midcourt sidelines. She grabbed the lead in the opening set, although the opponent hung tough for the second set. Wozniacki managed to break her serve for another lead in the second set, however, before winning the title a few minutes later. The celebration was short lived, since she had to fly for a scheduled exhibition game in Monaco. This is her first win at Family Circle before coming close to winning two times before. In 2009 she finished runner-up to Sabine Lisicki.
Vesnina still has not gained a singles win but her recent performance is enough to make her confident about her next matches. She beat four seeds on her way to the final, with her win over Samantha Stosur her first victory over a top 5 player.
