Casper Ruud has qualified to play in the ATP Finals after making it to the quarterfinals of the Korea Open. The World No.2 beat Chilean player Nicholas Jarry. The finale will be played in Turin from November 13 to 20.

This is the second straight year that Ruud has qualified for the Finals. Last year, he made it to the semifinals before being defeated by Daniil Medvedev.

“I just got the news that I qualified for the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin again this year and I’m so much looking forward to coming back to Italy,” Ruud said.

“I had such a great time last year, it’s a great country for tennis.”

Ruud has had an impressive season. He is currently the World No.2 but had a chance to reach the top spot during the US Open. But he lost to Carlos Alcaraz in the finals and the Spaniard rose to No.1 instead.

This year, he also reaches his first ATP Masters 1000 in Miami. This year, he also won in Gstaad, Geneva, and Buenos Aires.

The No.2 spot is a career-high for Ruud. It is also the highest ranking achieved by a Norwegian since 1973.

“My goal for this year is to finish in the top three in the ranking,” Ruud said.

“But there are many good players that probably feel the same, so if I can do that I’ll be very happy.”

Last week, Ruud also played for Team Europe in the Laver Cup.

He will next face Yoshihito Nishioka in the quarterfinals after beating Jarry in the second round 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.

“The first set went very well, but in the second set, it was tough to break him. I had to work hard and I was very happy to get the win in the end,” Ruud said.
