Former World No.1 Victoria Azarenka withdraws from the Toronto Open due to visa issues. She updated her fans on social media. The Russian has played in Canada before and said that she is sad about missing out on one of her favorite tournaments.

Her twitter statement said:

Hello everyone! I wanted to inform you that I, unfortunately, have to withdraw from the tournament in Toronto due to my visa not being approved.

Its very sad to miss one of my favorite tournaments. I love to play in Canada with great fans and a place where I made many friends over the years. Good luck to everyone at the event!

See you in Cincinnati!

Just this week, Azarenka played in the Citi Open in Washington. She had made it to the quarterfinals where she lost to Wang Xiyu.

Azarenka was also unable to play in Wimbledon this summer because of the All England Clubs ban on Russian and Belarusian players.

She had commented on this saying, I think what people missed here was a big opportunity to show how sports can unite.

I think we missed that opportunity, but I hope we can still show it.

Azarenka is next expected to play at the Western & Southern Open which will be held in Cincinnati. She won that tournament twice, most recently in 2020.
