Iga Swiatek to Play at the Toronto Masters, Faces Many Big Names

Iga Swiatek, the current World No.1 is set to make a hard court appearance for the first time in four months at the WTA Toronto Masters.

She will be going after her 7th title this season. Prior to her match with Alize Cornet at Wimbledon, Swiatek had a 37-match winning streak going. The last time she played on the hard court was in April of this year at the Miami Masters where she won the title.

This is not Swiatek’s first time at the Toronto Masters, She had previously played there in 2019 where she lost in the third round to Naomi Osaka.

After playing in Toronto, the two-time French Open champion will next play at the Cincinnati Masters in her bid to warm up for the US Open.

Should Swiatek make it to the top quarter of the draw, she could meet top players including the current Wimbledon runner-up Ons Jabeur.

Emma Raducanu is also expected in Toronto. The US Open defending champion also played in the recently concluded Citi Open where she lost in the quarterfinals to the eventual champion Ludmilla Samsonova.

The Brit has been in the news lately for her choice to work with tennis coach Russian Dmitry Tursunov.

Other big names in the draw include Beliga Bencic and Victoria Azarenka. Moreover, 23-time Grand Slam winner Serena Williams has also been granted a wildcard. She is on her path to a comeback and is still a force to be reckoned with.

Garbine Muguruza is also in the draw so is another Williams sister. Venus Williams also has a wildcard and is set to play Jil Teichman in the opening draw. The current Wimbledon champion, Elena will take the next step for her quest for another Grand Slam as she enters the qualifier in the first round.
