Simona Halep has made it past Paula Badosa in the fourth round of Wimbledon and making it to her fifth Wimbledon quarterfinals.

She finished Badosa in just an hour 6-1 6-2. The 2019 Wimbledon champion is yet to drop a set at the tournament.

A calf injury saw her sit out Wimbledon 2021 and this year, she could have been sidelined by a neck injury but she has proven fit enough for the tournament.

“It means a lot that I’m back in a quarter-finals after I struggled so much with injuries and self-confidence,” said Halep.

“I’m working hard every day. I feel like if I do that, I will get better. I’m really happy with the way I’m playing. I’m really confident. It’s a pleasure to be on court.”

This was Haleps second win over Badosa this year as she also defeated her in the Madrid Open. The fourth-round match at Wimbledon saw Halep break Badosas serve five times. The match lasted only 59 minutes. This was Haleps first time on Centre Court in over 1000 days.

“Actually, I was more nervous yesterday than today,” she admitted. “It’s very special to be back I missed a lot, to play in Wimbledon. Three years was a lot … It’s always a pleasure to come back and to have the chance to play on Centre Court.”

Halep is next to face American Amanda Anisimova in the quarterfinals. The American dispatched Harmony Tran who may be remembered as having bested Serena Williams in the first round.
