Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal have been declared the first and second seed at Wimbledon respectively.

Serena Williams, who is joining as a wildcard is unseeded.

With World No.1 and World No.2 in men’s tennis unable to play at the grass-court Grand Slam, Djokovic and Nadal have instead been named as the top 2 seeds.

World No.1 Daniil Medvedev is unable to play because the All England Club has disallowed Russian and Belarusian tennis players from participating. Alexander Zverev, on the other hand, is recovering from an injury.

Nadal and Djokovic will be on opposite sides of the draw and the only way for the two to meet on the court is if they both make it into the finals. Unlike in last months French Open, where they met in the quarter-finals.

Should Nadal win this grand slam, he will extend his record to 23, and should Djokovic be the winner, this will be his 21st grand slam and will be breaking away from his 2nd place tie with Roger Federer.

Speaking of players with the most Grand Slam wins, Serena Williams who currently holds the top spot for both men and women with 23 grand slams is playing as a Wildcard.

The last time she appeared in Wimbledon was last year when she had to bow out early because of an injury. She had spent a year in recovery. The draw is Friday and the tournament officially begins on Monday.

Since 2021, the seeding at Wimbledon have been based on World Rankings and since last year, Williams has dropped down in rankings. Top-seeded for the women’s tournament is Iga Swiatek.
