Iga Swiatek Beats Lesia Tsurenko in the First Round of the French Open, Krejcikova, and Osaka Get Knocked Out

Current World No.1 Iga Swiatek has demonstrated why she is a force to be reckoned with a quick win over Lesia Tsurenko in the first round of the French Open.

The Polish player won in less than an hour with a 6-2 6-0 victory. This win extended her winning streak, the longest by any player on the WTA tour since 2013. 20-year-old Swiatek won the Roland Garros title in 2020.

Commenting on her streak, Swiatek said, I know the streak will someday stop. She has been on an impressive run since she became World No.1 after Ashleigh Bartys shocking retirement in March.

Following her first-round win, she said, “It was a pretty good match for me.

“I just want to keep going. I know the streak will someday stop but I’m just focusing on my game and not the numbers.”

She is next set to go up against Alison Riske in the second round.

As Swiatek advances, second-seed Barbora Krejcikova and Naomi Osaka were knocked out of the tournament.

Krejcikova was taken out by teen player Diane Parry 1-6 6-2 6-3. Osaka, on the other hand, lost 7-5 6-4 to Amanda Anisimova. Anisimova is now set to face Donna Vekic in round two.

Krejcikova said that she felt like she hit a wall. “I just think I collapsed physically, and, it was tough because I didn’t play the matches.

“I have to start somewhere, so it’s a pity that it had to be here and I didn’t have any other matches, but I think it’s a good way to move forward.”

Osaka, who has struggled with an Achilles injury, lost to Anisimova. The match was warmly received by fans.
