Rafael Nadal waves to the crowd after defeating Jack Sock at the Citi Open tennis tournament Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2021, in Washington.

Going back to playing seemed to be a challenge for Rafael Nadal this year after he acquired an injury. After a long-time rest and taking most of his time to spend with his family, Nadal announced that he will be playing at the 2022 Australian Open.

The 20-time Grand Slam ATP champion failed to proceed at the US Open after he lost to Lloyd Harris. Nadal was remembered for dominating the US Open for several years. He was also absent at the most prestigious Tokyo Olympics and Wimbledon Open, so he could take a rest from extreme physical activities and recover from his injury.

Nadal kept silent about his progress, but after confirming that he would be joining the Australian Open, his fans were in frenzy to see him back on the court. He also intends to play in the World Tennis Championship next month in Abu Dhabi, and he is working hard to make his plan happen to reality.

When asked about his injury, he replied that his foot is getting better, and he’s always on an hour and a half training each day. He confirmed that he’s feeling better and on the right track to be back on the court.

Tweets came flooding to share their excitement and support for the Spaniard, after not seeing him for a very long time on the court. Nadal’s world ranking has already dropped to ATP World Number 5 for his long absence. While he already expressed his intention to participate at the Australian Open, the current World Number 1 Novak Djokovic is still mum since Australia’s decision to close the border for unvaccinated players.
