Fifth-seeded Borna Coric made a successful debut at the Rio Open moving past Juan Ignacio Londero to reach the second round.
The Croat defeated Londero at the Guga Kuerten court in two sets 7-6 (5), 7-5, winning 59 percent of service points in one hour and 58 minutes.

“I’m happy for a good start in Rio. It feels good to come on top, and I’m looking forward to my next match. It was tough to get it rolling, but as I spent more time on the court, I was picking up my confidence,” said Coric.
Neither players had contested the ATP 500 event the year before, when Laslo Djere triumphed over Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-3, 7-5, winning his maiden ATP title.
Fourth-seeded at the 2020 Argentina Open last week, Coric debuted in the tournament losing to Thiago Monteiro 6-4, 7-6 (6).
Argentine Londero reached the semifinals of the ATP 250 tournament where he lost to Casper Ruud 4-6, 7-5, 6-1.
The Norwegian crowned champion, last Sunday, edged Portuguese Pedro Sousa 6-1, 6-4.
The Argentina Open is the first ATP title lifted by Ruud, who played today at Rio Open, losing to Italian Gianluca Mager 6 (4)-7, 5-7.

Coric will face Thiago Seyboth Wild in the second round.
On Monday, the Brazilian (19) overcame Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 5-7, 7-6 (3), 7-5, in three hours and 49 minutes.
World No. 206, in the FedEx ATP Tour Rankings, Seyboth Wild fell in the first round of the 2020 Cordoba Open against Juan Pablo Varillas 2-6, 6-7.
Coric and Seyboth Wild will square off for the first time when they meet tomorrow.
The seventh edition of the Rio Open presented by Claro takes place at the Jockey Club Brasileiro from February 17th - February 23th.
Top-seeded Dominic Thiem won his opening match against local hero, wild card Felipe Meligeni 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 tonight advancing to the second round of the ATP 500 event.
