At the US Open in Flushing Meadows, Rafael Nadal is still in the running to win the US Open. He is a definite favorite, and has now advanced to the next stage after defeating Diego Schwartzman in a thrilling quarter-final match.
The Spaniard went against the Argetine, and achieved victory in a 6-4, 7-5, 6-2 match.
However, the road to victory was not easy as Schwartzman made Nadal work hard to get it. The Argentine twice rallied within a four-game deficit. Making it difficult for Nadal to just breeze past through him.
After his victory, Nadal will then go against Matteo Berretini of Italy. Berretini just defeated Gael Monfils in their previous match.
As Nadal moves closer to the final round of the US Open, he also comes closer to reaching Roger Federer’s 20 Grand Slam victories. Nadal currently has 18 titles under his name, but Federer still has the most titles so far. In fact, it is known that the past 11 Grand Slams have actually been won by either Djokovic, Nadal, or Federer. Also known as the ‘Big Three.’ The three tennis players, despite being in their 30s, are not really showing any signs of stopping.
Unfortunately, during this year’s US Open, defending champion Novak Djokovic has already made his exit. This was during his match against Stan Wawrinka, where Djokovic lost after suffering from shoulder injury. On the other hand, Federer also lost to Dimitrov during the quarter-final round.
