Serena Williams, eight-time Grand Slam winner, advances to US Open’s semi-finals after defeating older sister, Venus, in a 7-6(8/6), 7-6(9/7) match.
The match was another intense match between the Williams sisters, which showcased long rallies and precision shot-making. However, this time, it also showed some uncharacteristic errors made on the behalf of Venus.
It was their 17th match, and now, Serena as won 9 of the matches, which includes 6 Grand Slam tournament matches.
According to Serena, “It felt like the final of US Open. I can’t believe I won. Wow. It was difficult because she is such a great player.”
In the semi-finals, Serena will come face to face with No. 6 ranked, Dinara Safina, who had advanced into the semis by defeating No. 16 player, Flavia Pennetta.
Serena considers it luck that she won since she believes that Venus rarely makes the kind of errors that occurred during their match. Even Venus believes that whatever happened during the match was “a first.”
Back when they were on the Top 2, the sisters would only meet at the finals of tournaments. However, due to injuries, inconsistency, and inactivity, their rankings have dropped and now it has fallen to the luck of the draw that determines which stages they would meet.
