Atletico Estudiantes are a football club based out of the town of Rio Cuarto, in the province of Cordoba, Argentina. The team is called Leon de Imperio and play their home games at the Estadio de Rio Cuarto, the municipal stadium at Rio Cuarto.
The team has been a part of the National championships on 3 previous, consecutive, occasions in 1983, 1984 and 1985. In 1983, the team was eliminated at stage one where they failed to win even a single game. In 1984, the team finished 3rd out of the 4 teams in their group but despite having a win, their most significant result was a draw against River Plate.
In 1985, the team had Boca Juniors in their group and drew 1-1 with them. In the return leg, Boca hit 7 past them with Estudiantes de Rio Cuarto just managing one. The team finished second in the table and managed to enter the second round where they were beaten by San Martin de Tucuman, 4-2 on aggregate.
The team has had some good players playing in their team including the likes of Roberto Mouzo, Juan Manuel Llop, both in the early ’80s; Roberto Daniel Gasparini, in the mid ’90s and Martin Cabrera in 2001-02.
