From the city of Parque San Martin comes the football club, Club Social y Deportivo Merlo. Currently playing in the third division, or Primera B Metropolitana, the club began their football career in 1956, when they started off with AFA lower leagues. At that time they were called 9 de Julio, honoring the date that Argentina declared its independence. In 1968, the club changed their name to their current name, Club Social y Deportivo Merlo.
Some of their most notable title wins are the Primera C Metropolitana, in the 1999-2000 season, as well as in the 2005-06 season. Their two most notable players weer Sergio Zarate and Javier Paez.
