Country Argentina Argentina
City Villa Maipu
Founded 1906

Chacarita Juniors are based out of the Villa Maipu district in San Martin, a part of the Buenos Aires province in Argentina. The team is currently a part of the Primera B Nacional division. The club was founded in 1906 in an anarchist library that was built on the border of the Villa Crespo and Chacarita neighbourhoods. There was a break in the club’s functioning due to certain institutional issues and as a result, it shut down only to re-open again in 1919.

The team was a part of the amateur division in 1924 and was part of the first division in the newly formed professional leagues. In 1940, they suffered their first setback in the form of relegation to the second division however this trip lasted only for one season as they back again the following year. The team shifted base during this period and were now based out of San Martin Partido.

The team won its first Primera Division title in 1969 but what followed was a period of terrible form and performance that saw them get relegated all the way down to the Primera D in just 11 years. In 1984, the team climbed out of four divisions in four years to reach the top flight again but this time, hooliganism saw the club get suspended for a month. The suspension cost the team 10 points and was relegated to the Primera B Nacional division.

After a few years of oscillation between the second and the third division of the league, the team came back to the first division by 1999. Chacarita were once again relegated to the second division in 2004 and have since stayed in the league at that level.

The team plays their home games at the Chacarita’s stadium but due to some undisclosed reasons, they are using the Argentinos Juniors’ grounds for their matches as well.
