Legia Warsaw is a Polish football club based in Warsaw. They currently feature in the Polish first division and are one of the traditional giants of Polish football.

Legia Warsaw were established on Aprilm 1916 and comprised of mainly army men as football players. They were inducted into the PZPN on March 14,1920 and were then officially known as WKS(Army Sports Club in direct translation).

Legia Warsaw played their first league in 1927 but after some years in 1936 they were relegated to the Polish second division. After the World War II, the club were rechristened as Central Army Sports Club in 1949 and won their first ever Polish first division title in 1955.

Legia Warsaw play their home matches at the Polish Army Stadium that can accommodate 13,628 although it is now being upgraded to support 31,800 spectators.

Legia Warsaw bear the nicknames the Militaries, the Legioniers and the Black L.

In the 1970s, Legia Warsaw enjoyed their best and most successful in history. They reached the semi-finals of the European Cup in the 1969-1970 season and reached the quarter-final of the same competition the next season. Then again in the 1990-1991 season, Legia Warsaw reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup.
