Club Atletico Gimnasia y Esgrima de Jujuy, is based in San Salvador, from the Jujuy Province. It was founded in 1931, and is known primarily for its impressive football team, which currently plays in the first division. The club plays home games at Estadio 23 de Agosto, with a capacity of 23,000 spectators.
An important team in the football scene in Argentina, they have played in the Argentine second division for most of the time, and made the shift to first division only recently. Despite this, they have played at the highest levels of Argentine football on numerous occasions.

The team participated in the first division after they bagged the 1993-94 Nacional B championship, but in 2000 they were relegated. The club then went on to win the Primera B Nacional Clausura tournament in 2005, soon after which they returned to playing in the Argentine Primera. Some of the more prominent players in the team were David Bisconti, Chato Rosas and Mario Humberto Lobo.
