FC Steaua Bucuresti is a Romanian football club based in Bucharest. They currently feature in the Romanian first division and besides being the most successful Romanian football club ever are also the first East European side to win the European Cup.

Steaua Bucuresti were founded on June 7,1947 by several officers of the Romanian Royal House as ASA Bucuresti and was formed as a sports society with seven initial sections. In 1948 the club was rechristened as CSCA Bucuresti and then became CCA Bucuresti in 1950.

The club won their first trophy in 1949 when they emerged victorious in the Romanian Cup. They won three successive Romanian championships from 1951 to 1953 and continued dominating Romanian domestic leagues after that.

In 1961 the club became CSA Steaua Bucuresti but couldn’t manage much success in the next two decades, winning only three Romanian championships. However they refurbished in the 1980s and won the European Cup in the 1985-1986 season, becoming the first east European club to win the European Cup. They won the UEFA Super Cup in 1987.

In 1998 they became FC Steaua Bucuresti after removing themselves from CSA Steaua and qualified for the UEFA Cup semi-finals in 2005-2006. They then played in the UEFA Champions League in 2007-2008 season.

Steaua Bucuresti play their home matches at the Stadionul Gencea that can support 27,557 spectators. They bear the nicknames the Red and Blues, the Army Men, the Magic Steaua and the Speedsters.
