History
Ukraine was admitted as a FIFA nation in 1992, after the split of the Soviet Union. The Ukrainian national team had a wonderful generation of players led by Andriy Shevchenko, Anatoliy Tymoshchuk and Serhiy Rebrov through the 1990s but did not qualify for a major tournament until the 2006 World Cup.

With Shevchenko leading them as captain, Ukraine reached the quarter-finals were they lost to eventual champions Italy 3-0.
Ukraine has not qualified for the World Cup since, but it has participated at the European Championships in both 2012 and 2016 where they didn’t progress beyond the group stage on either occasion.
