FC Erzgebirge Aue popularly known as Viola is a German football club playing from the city of Aue, Saxony. The Aue is the smallest city of Germany to host the club which is playing at the second level of German football. The club, in 2008-09 was a member of the 3.Liga, after getting relegated from the 2 Bundesliga in 2007-08.
The club was established in 1945 as SG Aue. Since its foundation the club has undergone frequent changes in the name along with change in its sponsorship. In 1945 SG Aue became BSG Pneumatik Aue when it was sponsored by the local construction tool works. The name was again transformed to Zentra Wismut Aue in 1949 and to SC Wismut Aue in 1951 with the change in sponsorship.

The club consists of some of the most promising players that are being noticed for their performance on the fields. Some of them include Erhard Bauer, Dieter Erler, Manfred Kaiser, Harald Mothes, Willy Tröger, Jörg Weißflog and many more.
The club is remembered for its various victories and honored it has received in these years. Aue were the winners of the DDR Oberliga thrice in 1956, 1957 and in 1959 as well as winners of the transitions championship in 1955. They have also won the FDGB-Pokal cup in 1955 and were the finalists of the same in 1959. There greatest achievement was their winning up the Saxony Cup for the three times in 2000, 2001 and in 2002. They have also amazingly won the Regionalliga Nord in 2003.
The club plays their home matches in Erzgebirgsstadion that has a capacity of 15,690 with their home colors as purple shirt, white shorts and purple socks and away colors as orange shirt, black shorts and orange socks.
