The TSV 1861 Nördlingen is a German football team located in Nördlingen town in Schwaben. Founded in 1861, this team plays their home matches at the Rieser Sportspark, having a seating capacity of 10,000 spectators.

Other than football, the team offers 14 sports developments, being the most successful basketball department. Presently it is home to men’s and women’s team in the second Basketball Bundesliga (II).

This club got promoted to the second Amateurliga Schwaben (IV) in 1959 spending 3 season till its reorganization of German football in 1963. The home stadium of this team is at the Gerd-Muller Stadium which was renamed honoring Gerd Muller in 2008. Until then, it was named as Rieser Sportpark. The team is a solid and a stable club having played till date for 50 years either in the Landesliga Sud or the Schwaben league of Bezirksliga, 2nd Amateurliga or Bezirksoberliga.

The team was grouped in the Bezirksliga (V) Schwaben, managing to win in their first season, due to the goal scoring efforts put by Gerd Muller. Later on, the team achieved the Landesliga Bayern-Sud (IV) and spent three season in the league till they got relegated back to the Bezirksliga in 1967. By 1968, Bezirksliga Schwaben got split into northern and southern section and entered the Bezirksliga Schwaben-Nord, till 1974.

The club youth teams are strong traditionally, with it’s under 19 side playing in the Bayernliga-Sud, which is the highest level in Bavaria. Prior to the introduction of the U-19 Bundesliga and the Regionalliga, this team faced the youth side of FC Bayern and TSV 1860 Munchen in the Bayernliga-Sud. It was in 2004, that this team won their promotion to the Landesliga and has remained in this league till 2007-08 season.
