It was on 18th November 2009 that Uruguay team got qualified for the FIFA World Cup in 2010 after they defeated Costa Rica by 2-1. This year, this team reached quarterfinals and faced Ghana team too. Uruguay defeated Ghana, though they lost in the semi finals to the Netherlands team.The kit of this team was adopted in the year 1910 with light blue away jerseys being their home jersey too. The present team uses home and away kit clothes and shoes similar to their historic club, which is light blue shirt, black shorts and black socks.
Major Achievements
This is the team that won FIFA world cup twice along with their first ever World cup in 1930 as host. Their second title was in 1959 when they defeated host country Brazil by 2-1 in the finals. Prior to the formation of the World Cup, this team won the Gold medals twice in football at the Summer Olympics in 1924 and in 1928.
The team even won the Mundialito in 1980, a tournament which included former world cup champions Uruguay and was hosted in 1980 in order to celebrate the fifteenth anniversary of the first world cup.
Till date, this team has won around 19 official titles, which includes 2 FIFA World Cup, 14 Copa America, 2 Olympic Games and one Mundialito.
